Inhabits sandy and muddy littoral habitats. It feeds on detritus and small organisms. To protect themselves from the incoming tide, they burrow in the sand or mud and traps a small bubble of air to survive the high tide (Ref. 85383). Members of the order Decapoda are mostly gonochoric. Mating behavior: Precopulatory courtship ritual is common (through olfactory and tactile cues); usually indirect sperm transfer (Ref. 833).
